Web3 Casino Glossary: the terms this site uses, plainly
By Elias Varga
The Wallet is what you sign in with. The message is what you sign. The fee is what the chain charges. The balance is what the casino holds. The terms and conditions contain clauses. Each is one or two sentences. Defined as they are in the source. The guides provide additional info. Nothing here is a verdict on any casino. Those are on the reviews.

The six words every page on this site uses
Wallet
There are many wallets. The app that holds your keys and signs for you is MetaMask, Phantom, Trust Wallet and the rest. A wallet address is public. A seed phrase is what generates the keys.
Sign a message
Log in by proving you hold the wallet and then approve the message. Nothing moves and no gas is paid. The sign in guide shows how one is done line by line.
Approve
Allow a contract to spend a token from your wallet, up to an amount, later. It costs gas and is the one and only prompt a login never needs. The approvals guide shows where one is done.
Gas
The fee charged by the network for each transaction is paid in the chain's coin: ETH, SOL, BNB, TRX and Toncoin. The casino pays the fee on the withdrawal it sends and may pass it on. The gas guide has each figure.
Seed phrase
The 12 or 24 words a wallet is restored from is called the Secret Recovery Phrase by MetaMask. Whoever knows the words, controls the wallet. No casino needs those words.
Burner wallet
A separate wallet, funded only for the money you will gamble with, is set up by the burner guide. That way, a casino sees a small balance, and if you get a bad prompt, it can't reach more.
Wallet terms
| Term | What it means here | Read on |
|---|---|---|
| Self-custody wallet | A wallet whose keys sit on your device and never with the maker: MetaMask, Phantom, Rabby, Coinbase Wallet, Trust Wallet, OKX, Exodus, Bitget Wallet by their own pages. The coins move only when you sign. | Wallet hub |
| Hardware wallet | A device that holds the keys and signs on its own screen, used through a hot wallet such as MetaMask or Phantom. Ledger's Secure Element and clear signing are the terms its own pages use. | Ledger guide |
| Desktop wallet | A wallet installed as a program on Windows, Mac or Linux rather than as a browser extension; Exodus is the one on this site, with its Web3 mode for casino sign-ins by its own pages. | Exodus guide |
| Exchange account vs wallet | An exchange holds your coins in its own systems; a wallet holds keys on your device. Coinbase Wallet is the second kind and is not the Coinbase exchange, whose Prohibited Use Policy names unlawful gambling. | Coinbase Wallet guide |
| Hot wallet | A wallet whose keys live on a connected device: a browser extension or a phone app. Every casino login on this site goes through one, even when a hardware device signs behind it. | MetaMask guide |
| Embedded wallet | A wallet a site creates for you behind an email or social login, through Privy, Particle, Magic or Web3Auth. This site writes it as an embedded wallet with provider-held keys, never as your own wallet. | Embedded wallets |
| MPC, key shares | Multi-party computation: a key split into shares held by different parties and never assembled. Privy describes a two-of-two split with an enclave share; Binance Web3 Wallet describes key fragments with no seed phrase to write down. | Binance Web3 Wallet guide |
| Account | One address under a wallet's seed phrase. MetaMask adds accounts from its account menu; a second account can serve as a burner, and a leaked phrase loses them all. | Burner guide |
| Secret Recovery Phrase | MetaMask's name for the seed phrase. Written once on paper, typed into nothing, asked for by no casino. | MetaMask guide |
| In-app browser | A browser inside a phone wallet, Trust Wallet's and MetaMask Mobile's among them, that opens a casino with the wallet already connected; the alternative on a phone is WalletConnect. | Trust Wallet guide |
| Simulation, preview | The wallet's estimate of what a prompt will do before you confirm: Rabby's balance change, MetaMask's spending cap, Phantom's warning when it cannot predict an outcome. | Rabby guide |
Wallet features as each maker's own pages describe them.
Signing terms
| Term | What it means here | Read on |
|---|---|---|
| Connect | The first prompt: the site asks to see your address and balance and to request signatures. Nothing moves. It names the account and the site. | Connect wallet guide |
| Sign-in message, SIWE | A text the wallet signs to log in, under ERC-4361, Sign-In with Ethereum: domain, address, a nonce, a time. No gas, no transfer. Solana's version is Sign-In with Solana. | SIWE guide |
| Nonce | A one-time value in a sign-in message, at least eight characters by ERC-4361, so a captured signature cannot be replayed. In provably fair games, the counter that goes up by one per bet. | SIWE guide |
| Typed data, EIP-712 | A structured signature the wallet shows as labelled fields rather than raw text. A Permit approval under ERC-2612 is one: it names a token, a spender, an amount and a deadline, and it can set an allowance without a transaction. | Approvals guide |
| Token approval, allowance, spender | A transaction telling a token's contract that a spender address may move up to an amount of your tokens, by calling transferFrom later, in revoke.cash's words. It stays in force until set to zero. | Approvals guide |
| Unlimited approval | An allowance so large it never runs out; MetaMask lets you edit it under the custom spending cap field. This site never recommends one. | Approvals guide |
| Revoke | Set an allowance back to zero with a new approval transaction; MetaMask's Portfolio, revoke.cash and Bitget Wallet's Detect authorization each list what an address has granted. | Approvals guide |
| Drainer | A page built to collect one approval or one misleading signature and empty a wallet later. A login that asks for an approval is the tell. | Approvals guide |
| Clear signing, blind signing | Ledger's terms: a transaction shown in readable fields on the device, against one shown as a hash. Blind signing is off by default on Ledger devices by its own pages. | Ledger guide |
| WalletConnect pairing, session, relay | The QR code carries a symmetric key and a topic; the session carries the requests; the relay passes ciphertext it cannot read, by the WalletConnect specification. Five of the ten casinos use it. | WalletConnect guide |
Standards as published: ERC-4361 and ERC-2612 are Final; wallet wording from support.metamask.io and revoke.cash.
Chain terms
| Term | What it means here | Read on |
|---|---|---|
| Network, chain | The ledger a coin moves on. The same token can exist on several: BC.Game lists USDT on 16 networks. A deposit sent on a network the cashier did not list is the costliest mistake on this site. | Ethereum casinos |
| Layer two | A chain that settles to Ethereum and charges Ethereum's execution price plus a data fee: Base, Arbitrum, Optimism. Roobet, Metawin, Bitcasino and Just.bet take deposits on one. | Base chain casinos |
| Gwei, lamport | A billionth of an ETH, by ethereum.org, and the unit Ethereum gas is priced in; a lamport is Solana's smallest unit, with the base fee at 5,000 per signature by solana.com. | Gas guide |
| Base fee, priority fee | The two parts of an Ethereum fee: a per-block base that is burned and a tip to the validator. The wallet's market, low and aggressive choices move the second. | Gas guide |
| Bandwidth, energy | Tron's two resources: 600 free bandwidth points per account per day for plain transfers, and energy for contract calls such as a USDT move, obtained by staking TRX or burned from the balance. | Gas guide |
| Stablecoin | A token pegged to a currency: USDT, USDC, and Solcasino's own USDB bonus token. Most cashier minimums on this site are quoted in one. | Web3 casinos |
| Bridge | Moving value from one chain to another through a contract. Just.bet's home page describes bridging WINR in; ZKasino's bridge is the case in the rug-pull guide. | Rug-pull guide |
| Smart contract | Code on a chain that holds and moves value by its own rules: Just.bet's escrow, Metawin's prize-draw contracts, every token's approve function. | On-chain casinos |
| Explorer | A public site that shows every transaction on a chain by address or hash; the reason a deposit is never private and a burner's history is readable. | Burner guide |
Chain facts from each network's own documentation.
Casino terms
| Term | What it means here | Read on |
|---|---|---|
| Custodial balance | A deposit credited to an account in the casino's own systems; a withdrawal is the casino's transfer back. Nine of the ten reviewed casinos hold deposits this way. | On-chain vs custodial |
| Escrow contract, Merkle proof | Just.bet's design: USDC deposits sit in a contract on Arbitrum, and a Merkle proof releases the balance last committed to the chain even if the platform is unavailable, by clause 5 of its terms. | Just.bet review |
| Provably fair, server seed, client seed | A hashed server seed published before the bet, a client seed you set, a nonce per bet, and a check after the seed rotates. Applies to a casino's originals, not to studio slots. | Provably fair guide |
| VRF, QRNG | Random numbers from a contract: Chainlink's verifiable random function and API3's quantum random number generator, the two Metawin names for its prize draws. | Metawin review |
| Originals | Games the casino runs itself, Crash, Plinko, Dice, Mines among them, which are the games provably fair applies to: 74 at BC.Game, 24 at BetFury. | Web3 slots |
| House edge | The share of every bet the game keeps over time; BC.Game's rakeback formula is wagered amount times house edge times 1%. | BC.Game review |
| Rakeback | A share of your wagering paid back as a reward: BC.Game, Roobet, Rollbit and Fairspin each run one instead of, or beside, a welcome bonus. | No deposit bonuses |
| Wagering requirement, play-through | How many times a bonus, or a deposit, must be bet before a cash-out: 40 times at Dexsport and BetFury, the deposit once at Metawin and Solcasino, twice at Dexsport. | No deposit bonuses |
| Withdrawal cap | The most a casino pays per day, week or month: 1,000 USDT a day at Fairspin, $10,000 a day at Solcasino and at Metawin when unranked. | Withdrawal guide |
| KYC, AML, Sumsub | Identity and anti-money-laundering checks and the provider three casinos name for them. This site writes no-KYC only as a casino's own policy, with its reservation quoted. | No registration |
| Restricted countries | The list in the terms of where the casino does not accept players: 12 at BC.Game, about 70 at BetFury, 27 at Just.bet, none published at Dexsport. | Is Web3 gambling legal? |
| Licence, validator | The regulator a casino names and its register: Curaçao's Gaming Control Board, Anjouan's validator page, Tobique's register. Quoted verbatim or written NOT DISCLOSED. | Is Web3 gambling legal? |
| Rug pull, exit scam | An operator that takes deposits and goes. On this site only as dated cases with sources: ZKasino, Luck.io's closure, BetSwirl's lapsed domain. | Rug-pull guide |
Glossary questions players ask
What is a Web3 casino?
A casino where a wallet is the login: you connect a wallet and sign a message instead of typing a password. The casino either holds your deposit in a balance (which all 10 of the reviewed casinos do), or in a contract that you can leave, which Just.bet does for the balance only. A casino that takes crypto at the cashier, but asks for an email and password at the door, is a crypto casino, and not a Web3 casino, according to this site's standards.
What is the difference between custodial and non-custodial?
Who holds the coins? Custodial means the casino or the wallet provider holds the coins, and you hold a claim; non-custodial means you hold the keys, and the coins move only when you sign. A wallet, like MetaMask, is non-custodial. A balance at a casino is custodial at 9 of the 10 casinos reviewed. The on-chain vs custodial guide is the more detailed version.
What does it mean to sign a message?
To prove that you have a certain wallet without transmitting a transaction, you can use a sign-in message that is cost-free and Gas-less according to the ERC-4361 standard. It includes the site name, your wallet address, a nonce and the current time. All ten of the reviewed logins use sign-in messages of this type.
Is gas the same as a casino fee?
No. Gas is the cost of a transaction on the blockchain and is paid by the user for each transaction. Casinos may charge a fee per withdrawal, which is disclosed in the casino's terms and conditions or cashier, but this is not the same as gas. The gas guide keeps the two apart, chain by chain, and casino by casino.
What is a seed phrase?
The 12 or 24 words that generate every key in a wallet. MetaMask calls it the Secret Recovery Phrase and Phantom's set-up guide gives 12 words. These words are known only to the user, no casino or support employee needs these words and a request for these words is a request for the wallet.
What is provably fair?
A way to check one bet after the fact: the casino commits to a server seed by publishing its hash before the bet, you supply a client seed, a nonce counts each bet, and after the seed rotates you can recompute the result. It runs on the casino's servers and says nothing about where the balance sits. The provably fair guide lists which casinos publish what.
What is a rug pull?
A casino or crypto project that takes deposits and runs is a rug pull. The Dutch Public Prosecution Service calls ZKasino’s case a rug pull, a type of cryptocurrency investment fraud. The rug-pull guide keeps to that and two other dated cases.
Why does this site say NOT DISCLOSED instead of unlicensed?
A casino that doesn’t post a licence on its site has not told you it has none; it has told you nothing. This site quotes the licence as the casino states it, checks it on the register of the regulator where there is one, and writes NOT DISCLOSED where nothing is stated. Just.bet is the reviewed casino that states in its own terms it has no licence.
